Hi! My name is Al Gardner. I am an ADHD coach, certified life coach, and author of the forthcoming book, ADHD Systems and Strategies that Work!, due out Winter 2020.
Like many adults diagnosed late in life (in my case, mid-30s), I was suddenly cast into unfamiliar territory, known as the land of ADHD. Determined to learn whatever I could about the condition — and how I could best manage it — some might say I turned myself into a near expert on it … reading, watching, and listening to every book, video, podcast, and seminar I could find! I began to study (and continue to study) the latest research, completed coach training, and became a certified life coach. I began coaching people on their life, career, as well as ADHD, while building a growing coaching practice. That was over 20 years ago. It’s been a difficult, challenging, and a very slow journey, but we managed to pull it off. I say “we” because I’ve had help along the way.
All this being said, you will find the ADHD Life coaching offered here extremely practical in nature. It’s practical because it had to work for me first, as well as with others who don’t possess my exact brand of ADHD. Simply put, the coaching offered here helps one find solutions to current life problems while working with an understanding of the unique deficiencies in executive functioning a typical ADHD person faces. These deficiencies are often behind the lack of productivity and execution experienced by so many with ADHD, deficiencies that primarily express themselves in ways that often appear to outsiders as a lack of focus or attention.
ADHD life coaching is not a substitute for therapy or mediation. If you’ve received an ADHD diagnosis and are seeing a medical doctor or psychiatrist for medication, the coaching offered here can support you alongside your treatment. Coaching doesn’t focus on emotional issues of the past, as therapy might, nor does it diagnose or treat any mental health disorder or ADHD. Coaching is about the practical realities of managing one’s self and one’s life to the fullest. Here, we like to call it ADHD Life Coaching because far from just ADHD management skills, it is life coaching, skills coaching, and education all rolled into one. In short, it’s about your life, not just your ADHD. For more information, or for a free coaching session, click the button below.
